Dimitri’s Story

Community and Rehab Care - Community Living / October 15, 2025

Everyone, say hello to Dimitri Crockett! Dimitri was three years old when we came to America from Russia with his adopted parents. He has two other siblings. Family is very important to him, as are his relationships with staff and peers.

Dimitri came to live with us in Corsicana, TX, in June 2024. Moving to the group home was scary for him at first with the unknowns and the what ifs. Dimitri often stated his greatest concern was if his housemates and peers would like and accept him. He has not had an issue with that at all. His can-do positive attitude and smile are infectious. He is courteous and kind to everyone.

After coming to Corsicana, Dimitri expressed a desire to have gainful employment. Previously, he had worked at Tractor Supply in Midlothian. He was unable to transfer in his position to Corsicana, but that did not slow his determination. He actively searched, and with the assistance of our CBC, connected with the local Workforce Solutions. Shortly thereafter, he was hired at our newly built TJ Maxx. He stated that he was chosen for the position of Retail Associate due to his work ethic, which is extraordinary!

Dimitri is very involved with his care plan. Along with his staff, he monitors his medications and ensures that his programming and medical team are aware of any problems or concerns he has. He went with his staff to pick out pictures, table ornaments, and drapes for the home. Dimitri also assisted our maintenance tech, Mr. Cantu, with hanging up the pictures and drapes.

Dimitri has a desire to learn handyman duties, as to be self-sufficient when he reaches his goal of independent living. He often spends time with Mr. Cantu, and they have a special mentor/mentee relationship. Dimitri is now learning how to lay flooring and do painting projects. His other hobbies include building pinewood derby cars, reading, and gaming. We are super proud of his accomplishments so far, and we look forward to helping him reach all his goals! Job well done, Dimitri!
