25 years ago, Fabian Jones had recently graduated high school. He and his family were looking to fill the socialization space that had been absent since graduating, and Fabian decided to attend day services with ResCare.
Initially, this was a chance to integrate with his community and spend time with peers; however, Fabian had bigger goals. Through hard work and perseverance, Fabian was able to earn his driver’s license. With this newfound skill, another opportunity arose: the ability to earn a paycheck by assisting with the upkeep of our fleet.
Fabian can often be seen coming and going throughout the day in our parking lot, helping gas up a vehicle or working with our maintenance tech to drop off a van for an oil change. He enjoys the flexibility of being able to socialize with his friends in the day program while contributing to the day-to-day function of our program and earning money.
Perhaps what’s most remarkable about Fabian is his seemingly boundless positive attitude. His coworkers and care providers were unanimous in sharing their experiences with Fabian:
“Very reliable and upbeat person and client. I don’t think I have ever seen him in a lesser mood.”
“It would be awesome if everyone saw the sunshine the way he does.”
“Fabian always has a smile and greets everyone each morning with a positive attitude. Willing to help with any task that shall arise.”
“Fabian never has a bad day.”
“Fabian is a ray of sunlight every morning! He always has something to share with those he sees. Fabian finds the silver lining in every situation when it doesn’t go as expected. Fabian loves others, and he shows it by serving others each day.”
In the hustle of our day-to-day duties and deadlines, it is easy to focus on how many emails or reports someone can complete and forget about the equally important intangibles that people bring to the table. Whether he is telling you the details about the type of vehicle you drive, sharing the latest movie he watched (usually scary), or giving you his best SpongeBob impression, it’s impossible to get through a conversation with Fabian without him putting a smile on your face. Our office is better because Fabian is a part of it. We’re grateful he’s selected us to provide services for him and proud to call him our coworker.
