Matt’s Story

Community and Rehab Care - Community Living / August 9, 2022

Matt joined the Queenswood ICF (intermediate care facility), in May 2018, after aging out of a youth residential placement. He arrived at the home with many complex behavioral issues, including physical aggression, elopement, and behaviors that threatened his safety.

At this time, Matt’s team decided that he would be best served going to the comprehensive rehabilitative management needs facility (CRMNF) facility in Greencastle, Indiana. Originally, he had many of the behavioral issues that he had dealt with for most of his life, however, through support and therapeutic management of his needs he soon became a happy, productive, and fun part of this community.

Within a year Matt had progressed enough to move out of the restrictive facility and into the community waiver home in Greencastle! He lives there now with three other men.

Matt is a character with a lot of personalities. He has written, published, and sells two joke books. He also has added “stand-up comedian” to his list of accomplishments. Matt recently performed at Greencastle’s First Friday, a monthly public event held downtown.

While Matt’s list of accomplishments continues to grow, he is reported personally proudest of obtaining employment at the local McDonald’s, where he is shown photographed receiving recognition for his work.

Matt’s joke books are available here.
