As part of our commitment to helping people live their best life, we are especially pleased to put smiles on faces and provide memorable moments for the high need and medically complex populations we serve. Last month, two Community Living individuals we support and their caregivers were offered the chance to attend their first Kentucky Derby in Louisville!
The teams in Benton and Frankfort were winners of the first annual “Kentucky Best Life Derby Contest.” This opportunity was made possible by the generosity of Churchill Downs who awarded the teams with reserved seating as part of a premium Kentucky Derby package.
Prior to race day, everyone enjoyed a fun-filled day of shopping and selecting the perfect Derby ensemble. In fact, residents William White and Roberta Booth were both given “star treatment” while on their shopping excursions.
“It was a proud moment for me to experience this unique Kentucky tradition with these deserving participants and employees,” VP of Kentucky Operations Shannon McCracken said.
Once at the track for the big day, the group watched the crowds, enjoyed the races, met new people and walked around the Paddock. The rainy weather didn’t stop everyone from making unforgettable memories.
As the day was winding down, Shannon worried that everyone might be tired from all the excitement – especially William who was sitting next to her. So, she asked him how he was feeling.
William replied with a simple but meaningful word – happy.
