Haven Hospice Director of Clinical Operations Kristal Goodwin has been Working Smart and Doing Good in Palatka, FL.
Kristal was recently awarded the Barbara Janosko Excellence in Leadership Award at the Florida Hospice and Palliative Care Association Awards of Excellence. This honor recognizes a manager whose work has promoted the advancement of hospice and palliative care and demonstrates exceptional service, creativity, and leadership in their own hospice program as well as within interorganizational relationships.
Since she joined Haven Hospice, Kristal has encouraged teammates to achieve their career goals. Recently, she mentored two housekeepers working to pass their certified nursing assistant tests and attain their CNA licenses. Kristal’s manager noted that she also led her team through the tragic loss of a teammate last year. Haven Executive Director Angela Young said, “Kristal embodies so many qualities we look for in a leader, such as reliability, dedication, accountability, receptiveness to feedback, empathy, passion, and the ability to lead through change.”
Kristal has developed a culture of learning, accountability, and commitment to quality at the hospice care center. Under her guidance, her team has won the Haven Cup four times, an internal award for achieving the highest quality benchmarks. Her efforts have also contributed to Haven’s rise as a four-star hospice in Medicare’s family caregiver survey.
