Rehab Without Walls (RWW) Occupational Therapist Lacey Campbell has been Working Smart and Doing Good in Irving, TX.
Lacey worked with a client named Michael from fall 2023 to early summer 2024 after he sustained a cervical spinal cord injury from a powerlifting accident while working overseas. Due to the severity of his injury, he was initially classified as a quadriplegic and told his chances for returning to ambulatory level were minimal.
When the RWW team started working with Michael, he was wheelchair-bound and needed two-person assistance for standing as well as help with transfers and all self-care tasks. Over time, Lacey began to see more movement in Michael’s lower body. RWW introduced Michael to a community day neuro program, and by March 2024, he could perform self-care tasks with supervision and stand with a walker.
Lacey says, “By the end of our time together, Mike had accomplished so many of his goals, including working out in the community gym multiple times per week, cooking from a standing position, beginning driver rehab, and ascending 76 steps in a football stadium with assistance. At our time of discharge, Michael was preparing to go back to college to start the fall semester.”
Thank you, Lacey, for your positive Attitude and your team’s capacity to see the possibilities in Michael’s recovery. By recognizing and capitalizing on his motivation, you created an effective treatment plan that has helped Michael live his best life.
WORK SMART. DO GOOD.
