ResCare Community Living Residential Manager Jimmy Smith has been Working Smart and Doing Good in Christiansburg, VA.
Jimmy joined ResCare in May 2022 with no background in supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, but he did not let that stop him from quickly becoming a knowledgeable and dedicated leader. His career began as a Direct Support Professional, where he took the initiative to develop the skills needed to take on the Residential Manager position when it became available.
Executive Director Karen Godbey says, “He works closely with leadership to make sure his teams have what they need to be successful and often acts as the liaison to get new ideas and activities greenlit to better provide for those we serve.” He frequently uses his knowledge of policy combined with personal experience to problem solve and advocate for better care.
Jimmy’s openness to growth and willingness to seek out knowledge makes him an excellent leader for his team. “Jimmy holds himself and his staff to a high standard of integrity and responsibility in all aspects of the job from scheduling and attendance to providing direct supports,” says Karen. He has admirably devoted his time to knowing his business and building a vast skillset from the ground up.
