ResCare Community Living Program Director Mary Raleigh has been Working Smart and Doing Good in New Albany, IN.
In December 2025, Mary received an after-hours call from a Case Manager (CM) who told her about a client residing in substandard conditions after the death of his primary caregiver. He was living in squalor in a home with extended relatives where there was no running water, no electricity, and no means of heat outside of a rudimentary camping style heater. The CM was desperate to help this individual, and she needed Mary’s assistance.
Mary made contact the following day and set up immediate visits for him at a nearby home with a vacancy that she thought might work. The visit was an obvious perfect fit almost instantly. The current housemates were excited about the prospect of a new roommate, and the individual was thrilled at the outlook on a new life. Mary had to work smart and quickly to ensure everyone was on board with the transition. The day after the home visit, she was able to submit all required documentation and information, allowing this client to be placed in his new home within two days of the CM’s initial call to Mary.
