ResCare Community Living Direct Support Professional Mycole Hayes has been Working Smart and Doing Good in Lynchburg, VA.
Mycole supports clients by finding out what is important to them and helps with steps to achieve those goals. He encourages individuals to communicate with one another to find out about shared interests. To facilitate this, he hosts “Mycole’s Morning Conversations,” where clients have an opportunity to share the activities they’ve done outside of day support and other interests with one another.
Mycole brings a positive attitude to day support, which sets the tone for his peers and clients while there. After witnessing one client become upset about seeing someone with an item that he wanted, Mycole sat and talked with him. He supported this individual by helping create a shopping list of things he wanted and finding stores where those items could be purchased. Together, Mycole and the client incorporated a shopping trip into their schedule so the individual could make his purchases.
