Throughout November, we recognize National Adoption Month. StepStone Family & Youth Services Adult Developmental Home Provider Ronda Carlson has been Working Smart and Doing Good in Mesa, AZ.
Ronda has supported the same placement, an individual identified as KS, since she was licensed 20 years ago. They live and function together as a family, with KS referring to Ronda as “Mom.” She has worked with KS’s extended family throughout their time together and supports their relationship by facilitating regular visits.
When KS decided she wanted to retire, Ronda worked with her and the team to ensure this could happen. It was a gradual process, moving at a pace KS needed to guarantee she was ready for the transition to being home all day.
After her retirement, Ronda made sure there were activities in the community that KS could attend to keep her active and connected to her peers. KS now loves retirement, the freedom to sleep in, and choosing the activities she participates in each day.
Ronda is dedicated to KS, providing consistent advocacy, encouragement, and care. KS has accomplished many goals, including doing her own laundry, cleaning her room, and separating her medications. Ronda, thank You for setting an example and helping KS to live her best life.
