Elsa and Maria’s Story

Community and Rehab Care - Community Living / April 21, 2025

Elsa Cadena and Maria Llamas have had their current placement in the adult developmental home for over 14 years. They continue to provide excellent care and support her to be independent and advocate for herself. They have taught her skills such cooking, budgeting, tracking appointments, and processing her emotions.

Elsa and Maria have supported relationships with their placement’s family and others that are important to her. They have assisted their placement in finding new programs and jobs when she wanted a change. They encourage her to try new activities. She enjoys going dancing, cross stitching, and going on cruises.

Elsa and Maria opened their home to be licensed to care for adults with special needs and have had their placement in their home ever since. They care for her and have taught her how to stand up for herself, advocate for herself, and be more involved in everyday life. She is part of their family, and they are part of hers. She will tell you herself she loves them and her life with them and wants to live with them forever.
