Direct Service Professional Uses Her Love of Painting to Comfort Clients

Snow covered mountains and magical fairies adorn the walls of the rooms at a Hillsboro, Ohio, community living home. These whimsical landscapes are the work of Connie Wells, a direct service professional, who has taken her love of painting to create murals designed to provide comfort to the clients.  The transition into a new living environment can be challenging for both those in our care and their family members. Connie personalizes each space to reflect the individual’s interest, with the hope that the space will make transition easier.

“Connie has shown her love and care through not only taking care of individuals, but by also putting her heart and dedication in these murals,” said Teresa Moran, executive director of community living services in Cincinnati. “She has a beautiful talent of painting and has shown her love to the people she supports through her beautiful artwork.”

In the coming month, there will be a new client joining the home.  He has lived at home with his parents his entire life and is uneasy about the move. To make him feel at home, Connie will be painting his room.

Bob Barnes, president of community living, is grateful to have employees like Connie who treat those in their care as one of their own.  “Connie is a true artist and a special person. This is great work and an example of helping people live their best lives!” said Barnes.  “We appreciate the discretionary effort that Connie lends to provide this outstanding gift to the individuals in our care.”
