Luis’ Story

Community and Rehab Care - Community Living / November 20, 2025

When Luis Aquey-Cordero first arrived at Outwood in 2022, the transition was both scary and overwhelming. Leaving his family, the people he loved most, was not easy. The change brought uncertainty, but also the first steps toward an incredible journey of growth and self-discovery.

In just three years, Luis has made tremendous progress. Through dedication, support, and determination, he has developed the skills and confidence needed to take his next big step, moving into his own SCL home. He is truly excited beyond measure, and the entire team is so proud of how far he has come in such a short time.

Fluent in both English and Spanish, Luis brings a unique and joyful energy to those around him. He enjoys chatting in Spanish and will gladly help others with a word or two, though he admits he doesn’t quite have the patience to teach a full lesson! He especially loves when others try to speak Spanish with him.

Kind, polite, and deeply caring, he is known as a protector and a friend to many. His warmth and respect for others shine through in everything he does. This young man is special, and his future is as bright as his spirit. His journey is a testament to resilience, courage, and the power of believing in what’s possible.
