Michael Toro moved from an ICF to a waiver home. While in the ICF, Michael was very easily overstimulated and would react with violence or by trying to elope from the home. Michael and his team agreed that an ICF placement was no longer suitable for him, and he was awarded an exit waiver.
Mike was excited to be able to move out into the community. He moved into the supportive living home on March 10, 2025. Not only was Mike excited for the transition, but so was his mother. She helped him pack up his belongings at the ICF and move them into his new home.
Since that week, Mike’s independence and communication have grown tremendously. Michael has been all smiles and laughter every day. He has been using communication buttons throughout the home to make his wants and needs known to his staff. He will hit his walk or ride button to communicate that he wants to go somewhere instead of just walking out of the house. He also uses his communication buttons to help control his Alexa in his bedroom when he wants to listen to his music.
In less than a month’s time, Michael has completely come out of his shell and has shown us how strong and independent he can be in the right setting!
