Gilbert encourages his clients to build greater independence in their daily lives. He works alongside them to create step-by-step plans, breaking down larger goals into smaller, achievable tasks. A clear example of Gilbert’s dedication is seen in his work with one particular client. With Gilbert’s guidance and patience, they learned to participate in cooking their own meals, clean their room with minimal prompting, and select weather-appropriate clothing each day. These skills, once challenging, have now become a part of this individual’s daily routine.
Gilbert promotes relationship development by ensuring the clients in the home have shared mealtimes where they can practice social skills together in a comfortable environment. He also participates in community outings, ensuring that clients communicate well and engage with one another in appropriate ways.
