Lori’s Story

Community and Rehab Care - Community Living / May 2, 2023

Lori Denaro has been a member of ResCare’s residential program community for more than 20 years, graduating through the continuum to her current program in Hamilton, NJ. Both staff and peers who have had the pleasure to work with Lori have commended her for her kindness and advocacy for others. Lori is an active volunteer in her home and day program. She enjoys helping pass out lunches daily and loves to help the other clients complete their arts and crafts projects during the day program. She is consistently supporting new service recipients, helping them become oriented with the program and providing sage advice.

Lori is actively engaged in her community. She has varied interests and has been involved in many endeavors including the Meals-on-Wheels program and working as a checkout assistant in her local ShopRite. Additionally, Lori has competed for the Special Olympics in powerlifting, shotput, and track and field events. She won first place in powerlifting with 185 pounds!

A strong advocate for her peers, Lori facilitates house meetings and is always happy to lend a voice on behalf of her housemates. Whenever a special event is planned, whether hosting a visit with a local legislator, preparing for the program’s prom, or helping her peers learn the Philadelphia Eagles fight song for the Super Bowl, Lori brings positive energy and her love of helping others.

Earlier this year, Lori unexpectedly lost a close friend to an illness. With the support of her friends and staff, she has made wonderful strides, and everyone is proud of her resilience and perseverance. In addition to her active lifestyle within the program, Lori is also close with her sisters and is a devoted aunt to her many nieces and nephews. We are honored to celebrate all of Lori’s accomplishments!
