ResCare Community Living Site Supervisor Margo Richardson has been Working Smart and Doing Good in Baton Rouge, LA.

Margo demonstrated exceptional listening and goal-setting skills while supporting a client who needed to complete a hearing test. The client’s family requested that the procedure be done without sedation, and Margo understood the importance of this goal. She held regular conversations with the client to understand their fears and to build trust. Together, they set a long-term goal: attend and complete a hearing test without sedation.

Margo partnered with the medical team and the client’s support network to ensure consistent communication and preparation. She requested accommodations such as allowing extra time, bringing a comfort item, and gently massaging the client’s head while in the test room. She celebrated every small milestone the client achieved, like sitting in the waiting room, greeting the doctor, and tolerating the medical equipment being shown. After nearly two years of consistent, person-led support, the client successfully completed the hearing test without sedation.
