Washington Community Living Operation Earns Three-Year CARF Re-Accreditation

The Community Living operation in Washington state has earned re-accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), an independent, nonprofit accreditor of health and human services. The three-year re-accreditation focuses on an organization’s ongoing commitment to quality improvement and demonstrating conformance to CARF standards in services areas and business practices.
Survey Findings & Commendations:
- Leadership has undergone a variety of changes in the composition of the leadership team over the past three years and it appears that they have handled these transitions well and the clients have continued to receive services without interruption. The current leadership is knowledgeable, displays eagerness to fulfill their roles with a high degree of excellence, and are committed to the principles of Leadership, Environment, Get-going, Attitude, Communication, and YOU (LEGACY). These principles are the foundation of leadership behavior and how leadership is presented throughout the organization.
- ResCare demonstrates a remarkable strength in staff member tenure and dedication, with many team members having supported the same clients for ten to twenty years. This continuity fosters deep trusting relationships and ensures that clients receive consistent, compassionate, and personalized care from staff members who know them best.
- The direct support staff members’ foundation is in the Safekeepers, Trustworthy, Attitude, Respectful, and Skilled (STARS) standards. Their job performance and job tasks are woven into these high standards, which create a respectful interaction with each other and a great environment for the clients.
- The equity council newsletter is a strength as it provides staff members with information on monthly/daily observances, such as black businesses month and women’s equality day, that also highlights particular individuals in history as it refers to the observance.
- There is a remarkable website for the organization that includes videos of staff members describing why they like working at ResCare and also client success stories. It outlines the services provided and includes postings of available jobs within the organization. The website provides an excellent resource for those seeking employment or looking for services.
- The training platform PATH provides easy to access trainings for staff members that meets all the necessary requirements and can be accessed in a variety of places, such as the employee’s home or on laptops provided by the organization.
- The addition of the electronic case records system enhances documentation for the services provided to the clients and a person-centered philosophy is highly evidenced throughout service provision and is clearly documented in each clients’ individual support plans.
- The organization is applauded for its use of comprehensive data collection systems. The information gathered has been instrumental in gaining knowledge about how things are going operationally and providing opportunities for ongoing improvements, when needed.
- Documents for the survey process were readily accessible and well done.
