ResCare HomeCare Employee Volunteers with Honor Flight

Serving Our People and Community Highlight / October 22, 2018

BrightSpring Health Services is proud to acknowledge Sherry Pemberton, vice president of home care contracts for ResCare HomeCare, for her recent participation with the Honor Flight Network.

Pemberton served as a volunteer for the Honor Flight Bluegrass Chapter. An Honor Flight is supported by all volunteer, non-profit organizations dedicated to transporting United States military veterans to Washington, D.C., to see the memorials of the respective war(s) in which they fought. This past year, the Bluegrass Chapter flew 94 World War II era veterans, 77 Korean War era veterans, and 41 Vietnam War era veterans to Washington, D.C. Honor Flight Bluegrass has flown more than 2,000 veterans over the past 10 years.

“It’s such an emotional and unforgettable journey,” said Pemberton. “To help these heroes see the memorials to events that they witnessed and lived, and then observe their pride and pain is surreal.”

Pemberton accompanied 85 Kentucky veterans on the flight. From all over Kentucky and Indiana, the veterans were treated to a free Honor Flight from Louisville to Washington. A police escort guided them to the war memorials to honor their service and sacrifices and create the memory of a lifetime. ResCare HomeCare staff greeted the group as they exited the returning plane in Louisville, along with local media and hundreds of well-wishers from the Louisville community.
