In honor of Nurse Practitioner Week, we’re learning more about our team members as they share why they love working in the profession.
Abode Care Partners Nurse Practitioner Christina Lowry has been Working Smart and Doing Good in Defuniak Springs, FL.
Christina became a nurse practitioner so that she could have a more profound impact on the health care needs of her patients. She wanted to have a greater role in the health care decision-making process while working with patients and their families to improve overall quality of life and care.
Christina provides person-centered care to those she supports. One patient would come sit in her office daily to eat lunch so that Christina could encourage her to eat. They would make house calls to other members of her care team, which the patient loved to do as it kept her social. While this patient has since declined and is unable to get up as much now, Christina believes she was able to impact her quality of life through their interactions.
Strong relationships have been a through line in Christina’s career. She says, “Geriatrics is an area where some patients do not always have socialization or family involvement. I love being able to interact with my patients and treat them as if they are family. We love to joke and laugh, which is ultimately the ‘best medicine.’”
Thank you, Christina, for your positive Attitude and willingness to see the possibilities. You chose a career path in which you knew you could help others live their best life, and you continue to see the potential in every patient you support.
