The Way We Lead / October 19, 2023
As we near the end of National Pharmacy week, today we learn more about one of our PharMerica employees who has been helping others live their best lives in the wake of the Maui wildfires.
PharMerica Manager of Pharmacy Operations Mark Brown has been Working Smart and Doing Good in Wailuku, HI.
The Thursday after the fires, Mark received a call from the administrator of Hale Maku Kahului asking if they could help provide medications for the relief effort in Lahaina. Mark’s team rushed several orders so that they would be ready for the first relief trip 90 minutes later.
On Friday, they received a similar order for specific medications many patients had lost in the fire. Mark took part in this relief trip, setting up in a parking lot that had become a distribution hub for disaster supplies and services. They were able to provide medications for those in need as well as take lists of prescriptions people had lost so that those medications could be delievered the next day.
Mark has been a pharmacist member of the Hawaii Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT) for 26 years and has been deployed to disasters in many states and several countries. He says, “Always, when I am asked why I am part of a disaster team, my response is that I respond to help others because one day, my family will need help. That day came on August 8, 2023.”
Thank you, Mark. Your Leadership, in both your team and greater community, helped many to receive the medical care and support they needed in a time of tragedy. Your selfless actions are admirable and an example to others. Thank you for your work helping your community rebuild and recover.
WORK SMART. DO GOOD.
