Rehab Without Walls (RWW) Speech-Language Pathologist Beverly Miller has been Working Smart and Doing Good in Aiken, SC.
Beverly began working with a patient named Timmy in August 2023, assisting in his transition to RWW after he sustained a traumatic brain injury (TBI) from a work-related accident.
When the RWW team began working with Timmy, he and his family were experiencing frequent stress, frustrations, and arguments related to cognitive and physical obstacles that required constant supervision. The doors were locked for Timmy’s safety because he would wake up before everyone else and wander outside.
After working with Beverly and his other therapists, Timmy could be left alone for several hours with independent access to his door key. He had also reduced the frequency of repeated questions and comments, resulting in more harmonious relationships with his wife and children. One of Timmy’s goals as he started therapy was to cook meals again. Within weeks of his discharge, he was able to take over cooking most family dinners.
Thank you, Beverly! Your dedication to Timmy’s recovery centered on a people-focused Environment, prioritizing the goals of both your patient and his family. Because of the work you did in collaboration with other RWW team members, Timmy is able to live his best life.
