ResCare Community Living Residential Manager Columba Barajas has been Working Smart and Doing Good in Chula Vista, CA.
Columba has a strong work ethic and willingness to go above and beyond in helping the people she supports reach their goals. She attends regular individual support plan meetings and provides valuable input to the interdisciplinary team. Once the clients’ annual goals are established, Columba ensures they have all the necessary materials to work toward meeting them.
Occasionally, unexpected issues or challenges can arise in the home. Columba faced this situation when some work was being done at the home and the clients had to move into a hotel for a couple days. Each day spent away, Columba thought outside the box to turn that time into a fun experience that the individuals could enjoy. She encouraged them to consider that time as a vacation, taking them on numerous outings throughout their stay and staying past her scheduled time so the clients could maximize their community interaction. Overall, the individuals ended up enjoying their time away from home thanks to Columba’s innovation.
