ResCare Community Living Executive Director Rick Brewer has been Working Smart and Doing Good in Parkersburg, WV.
When the Records Clerk for the Parkersburg Agency experienced a personal tragedy after her apartment building caught fire earlier this month, Rick’s quick actions helped first responders save both her apartment and her beloved cats.
Rick was attending a meeting next door when the top floor of the apartment building went up in flames. As they evacuated, Rick realized that the flames were coming from a familiar property. He notified first responders that he knew someone residing in the building and confirmed they were not present at the time. He also told them that the employee and her boyfriend had three cats.
With this information from Rick, one of the firefighters broke into the front of the apartment and saved all three cats. Rick was also able to contact the employee and her family so they could get to the scene as soon as possible. He helped first responders by caring for the animals as they continued to tend to the fire, holding one of the cats as oxygen was provided. Rick remained on scene while the building was evacuated and the fire extinguished. He did not hesitate to offer the employee and her family assistance following the tragic loss, which included submitting a SHARE application on her behalf.
Rick, your Leadership in the face of tragedy is admirable. Beyond providing invaluable information and assistance at the time of the incident, you have continued to display compassion in the aftermath. Thank you for your dedication to the well-being of others and for doing what you can to help them live their best lives.
WORK SMART. DO GOOD.
