ResCare Community Living Direct Support Professional Vernon Nelson has been Working Smart and Doing Good in Atlanta, Georgia.
Vernon is a winner of the American Network of Community Options and Resources (ANCOR) 2023 DSP of the Year Awards. He supports and assists individuals in meeting their goals on a daily basis and develops trusting relationships with both the people he supports and his peers.
Vernon attends the annual individual support plan meetings with the residential manager to familiarize himself with each person’s goals and ensure that he can meet them where they are. He involves his individuals in their communities, taking them shopping, going on a variety of weekend outings, and transporting them to and from the day program.
Vernon is also an asset to his coworkers. He assists the residential manager in training new staff, always making sure they feel comfortable. He makes himself available for any questions they may have, so they can confidently help others live their best lives. Vernon’s dedicated work provides a sense of calm and peace in the home.
