Digital Marketing Specialist and Camp Horizon Director Lauren Rourk and the Sacred Journey Hospice team are Working Smart and Doing Good in McDonough, Georgia.
Each year, a team of Sacred Journey volunteers hosts Camp Horizon, a free day-long camp open to any child ages 6-16 who lost a loved one. The children take part in activities planned by Sacred Journey Hospice social workers and bereavement coordinators to promote healing, growth, education, and fun in several key areas like honoring their loved one’s memories. 82 campers were separated by age group to learn appropriate coping skills, how to recognize and manage emotions, and how to build supportive relationships. The youth also participated in camp-wide mural painting, team games, a ropes course, beachball battles, and drum circles.
“The kids have a ton of fun, but also do a lot of healing,” shared Director of Marketing Jared Evanchec. “All the groups are led by Sacred Journey Hospice social workers, spiritual care leaders, and bereavement coordinators who are experienced and trained in helping people navigate through the grieving process. It is a day filled with smiling faces, fun, and learning.”
Remarkable work, Sacred Journey team! You! are leading by example by making a meaningful difference in the lives of those impacted by grief.
WORK SMART. DO GOOD.
