StepStone Youth & Family Services Advocating for Youth in Foster Care
October 21, 2026
Throughout October, StepStone Family & Youth Services recognizes National Foster Youth Voice Month by highlighting the importance of listening to young people in foster care, understanding their experiences, and advocating for their needs. StepStone works to ensure youth have opportunities to participate in decisions about their care and that their interests are represented when they are not present or unable to advocate for themselves.
This commitment is especially important for adolescents ages 12 to 18, who face unique challenges during critical developmental years. Consistent support, trusted adult relationships, and a sense of belonging help youth build confidence, develop independence, and prepare for the future.
Foster families play a vital role by providing safe, stable, and nurturing homes where children and teens feel supported and confident to express their needs. StepStone equips caregivers with resources and guidance to help youth navigate challenges, maintain important relationships, and achieve their goals.
StepStone Family & Youth Services provides foster care and family support services in Arizona, Indiana, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia. Across these communities, StepStone works with youth, foster families, and community partners to promote safety, well-being, and positive long-term outcomes. Through dedicated professionals, supportive foster families, and collaboration with community partners, StepStone works to ensure children and teens have the resources, relationships, and advocacy they need to move forward.
